Why people choose cherry blossom
Sakura blooms for about a week. Japanese has a word for the feeling of watching them fall — mono no aware, roughly the tenderness of knowing something lovely is passing. It is not a sad idea so much as an honest one, and it happens to describe having a dog almost exactly.
People who choose this theme usually are not looking for something solemn. They want an object that reads as spring rather than as grief: pale pink, a little light, something that sits on a shelf without announcing what it is to every visitor.

How this design is made
The blossoms are painted by hand onto the dried, unfired clay, petal by petal, so the pink sinks into the surface rather than sitting on top of it. Branches are usually laid diagonally across the body so the composition still works when the urn is turned.
The figurine on the lid is sculpted separately from photographs of your pet and attached before the whole piece goes into the kiln. Occasionally we tuck a few loose petals around its paws.
After firing at 1200°C the pink deepens slightly. That shift is normal, and it is why we glaze a shade lighter than the colour we are aiming for.
